A live-edge pecan dining table built from a family's own tree

Legacy Projects

The tree came down. It can still be your dining table.

Your kids climbed it. It shaded the window every summer you can remember. We mill it, dry it, and build it into the table your family eats at.

How it goes

From the phone call about a tree to the first meal eaten on it

This takes longer than ordering off a catalog, and it asks more of you. Here is every step, honestly, so you know exactly what you are saying yes to.

  1. 01

You call us about a tree

Most people apologize for calling. Do not. A storm took it, or the roots found the foundation, or it just finally gave out after standing there longer than you have been alive. Tell us what you know. We will take it from there.

  2. 02

We look at it before a saw touches it

Send us photos and tell us what you know: the species, how big it is, how long it has been down. We look for rot, cracks, and fence wire grown into the trunk, then we tell you the truth. Sometimes there is no table in a tree, and you deserve to hear that before you spend a dollar. If the job calls for a visit to your property, we schedule it once the project is confirmed.

  3. 03

The log comes to the mill and we open it up

Most logs are brought to us here in Wolfe City. The first cut is the one nobody forgets. Forty, eighty, a hundred years of that yard are inside the log, and until the blade goes through, not one person alive has seen it. We read the grain as it opens and cut for the piece you have in mind.

  4. 04

    Into the kiln, slowly

Weeks in our vacuum kiln, coming down to furniture-grade moisture a little at a time. This is the unglamorous step that decides everything. It is why your table will still be flat in a heated, air-conditioned house when your kids are the ones hosting.

  5. 05

We lay the boards out with you

Come stand over them with us. This face or that one, where the live edge falls, which knot ends up under somebody's coffee cup every morning for the next thirty years. You will know the right one when you see it. People usually do.

  6. 06

We build it by hand in Wolfe City

Joined, sanded, stained, and finished in our shop, usually about 4–10 weeks once the lumber is dry. Our hands, our name, our phone number if anything is ever wrong with it.

  7. 07

Every last piece comes home with you

The offcuts are still your tree. We make cutting boards for the daughter who moved away, a shelf, pen blanks, small things for the grandkids to be given someday. None of it goes on the burn pile unless you tell us to put it there.

  8. Ready when you are.

Call or text 972-837-6974, or send us the details and a few photos of the log. We will take it from there.

Families we have done this for

Every one of these started as a tree somebody loved

These pieces are not for sale. They belong to the families whose trees they came from. We share their stories so you can see how we work and decide whether we are the right people to build yours.

The Keahey family · Canton, Texas

One pecan tree, three pieces, three houses

Mark, Kaytricia, and Carol grew up picking pecans under that tree with their father on Sunday mornings after church. Afterward they shelled them together inside while the Cowboys game was on.

Their father has since passed, and the tree stood on the property as a symbol of his love. A windstorm in late summer 2024 brought it down. That is when the Keaheys called us.

We took the best of that tree and gave each of them a piece. Kaytricia designed an oval table to fit her home, with a natural brown streak through the center of the top that nobody could have planned. Mark chose a gunstock stain and black farmhouse legs for the table where he and his wife now gather their grandchildren. Carol's became a sofa table.

Detail of the Cowley pecan table

The Cowley family · East Texas

A pecan from the bottom of a four-generation ranch

The Cowley family has worked the same East Texas ranch for four generations. James Cowley's father still runs it every day, and he is over ninety years old. We had the honor of meeting him while we harvested the tree.

The pecan grew at the bottom of the ranch. James guided the project with deep respect for his family and what that land means to them, and that single tree became the table the family gathers around today.

It is a reminder of the generations before them, and a place for the ones still coming.

The Bowerman family · A new home

The tree that made room for the house

The Bowermans had a pecan tree taken down in December 2024 to make room for their new home. The tree meant something to them, and they did not want to move in without it.

We opened the log so the live edge runs the whole length of the top, exactly the way the tree grew. We designed the set with them: the table, a matching bench, and five dining chairs.

The tree that stood where the house is now sits at the center of its dining and living room.

Before the firewood pile

Call us before anyone splits it.

Once a tree is cut into rounds and split, it is gone for good, and there is no getting it back. Give us one phone call and a few photos before that happens. We will tell you straight whether there is a table in it. Sometimes there is not, and we would rather lose the job than take your money for a piece that will not last.
