What we see in Dallas houses
Dallas is not one market. A Tudor in the M Streets, a ranch in Preston Hollow, a loft downtown, and a bungalow in Bishop Arts all want different furniture, and the mistake most people make is buying a piece that would look right in somebody else's house.
The older neighborhoods east of Central carry 1920s and 1930s stock with plaster walls, narrow dining rooms, and original oak floors. North Dallas runs to larger rooms and taller ceilings. The newer urban infill trades square footage for light.
How our work fits
Building for a Dallas room specifically
The same table is right in one house and wrong in the next. This is what we change, and why.
In a period house the table has to respect a room that was built before open plans, so we keep the top narrower, usually 36 to 38 inches, and put the visual weight in the base and the grain rather than the footprint. In the bigger North Dallas rooms we go the other way and build long, because a nine foot table in a room that can take it is the difference between a dining room and a hallway with chairs in it. For the lofts we build to the elevator, not to the doorway, and we say so before you order.

Is there a tree on the property?
If one came down in a storm, or one is coming out for a pool or an addition, we would rather look at the log than hear it went to the chipper. Bring it to our mill and we saw it, dry it in our kiln, and build it into the piece for the house it grew beside. Send us a photo first and we will tell you if there is a table in it.
