Custom hardwood furniture for Richardson
Mid century ranches with low ceilings and good bones.
Milled, dried, and built at our own sawmill in Wolfe City, about an hour from Richardson.
About Richardson
What we see in Richardson houses
Richardson has one of the better mid century ranch inventories in the metroplex, and a strong contingent of owners who are restoring rather than flipping them.
1950s through 1970s ranch houses with eight foot ceilings, defined rooms, brick fireplaces, and original hardwood or terrazzo under whatever was put down later.
How our work fits
Building for a Richardson room specifically
The same table is right in one house and wrong in the next. This is what we change, and why.
An eight foot ceiling changes everything about how a table should be built. Heavy turned legs and a thick apron make a low room feel lower. Mid century houses want the opposite: a thinner top edge, a leg that tapers, and daylight visible under the table. We build that profile, and it is not a compromise, it is the correct answer for the room. Walnut belongs in these houses more than any other species we work in.
Tapered leg tables
Light under the table keeps a low room from closing in.
Walnut
The species these houses were designed around.
Round tops for square dining rooms
Mid century dining rooms are often nearly square.
Worth asking in Richardson
Is there a tree on the property?
If one came down in a storm, or one is coming out for a pool or an addition, we would rather look at the log than hear it went to the chipper. Bring it to our mill and we saw it, dry it in our kiln, and build it into the piece for the house it grew beside. Send us a photo first and we will tell you if there is a table in it.
