Highland Park was laid out in the 1900s and built out through the 1930s, and the houses that give the town its character are Mediterranean, Tudor, Georgian, and Colonial Revival, most of them on streets that were planned around the creek rather than a grid.

These rooms punish a table that is the wrong scale. A Georgian dining room with an eight foot ceiling and a chandelier already in place needs a top sized to the chandelier and the rug, not to the seat count somebody wrote on a wish list. We measure the room, the light fixture, and the doorway before we quote. For the Tudors we lean into deeper walnut and darker oak; the wood needs to hold its own against dark millwork rather than float against it.
