Custom hardwood furniture for McKinney
The closest big town to our shop, and two completely different housing markets.
Milled, dried, and built at our own sawmill in Wolfe City, about fifty minutes from McKinney.
About McKinney
What we see in McKinney houses
McKinney is our nearest real market, fifty minutes down the road. It splits cleanly: the historic district around the square, where the houses are a hundred years old and the rooms are small, and everything west of Highway 75, which is new and open.
Victorian and Craftsman around the downtown square, much of it restored, with narrow doorways and stairs that will not take a ten foot top. West McKinney is standard new construction on larger lots.
How our work fits
Building for a McKinney room specifically
The same table is right in one house and wrong in the next. This is what we change, and why.
In the historic district we measure the stairwell and the front door before anything else, and more than once we have built a top in two pieces with a joint you have to be told about in order to find it. That is not a compromise on the piece, it is the only honest way to get real furniture into a hundred year old house. West of 75 there is no such constraint, and those are the rooms where we build the ten footers.
Pieces built to fit historic doorways
We measure the entry and the stair before we cut anything.
Kiln dried lumber sales
McKinney woodworkers drive out to the mill for slabs and dimensional stock.
Legacy Projects
Close enough to bring the log straight to our mill.
Worth asking in McKinney
Is there a tree on the property?
If one came down in a storm, or one is coming out for a pool or an addition, we would rather look at the log than hear it went to the chipper. Bring it to our mill and we saw it, dry it in our kiln, and build it into the piece for the house it grew beside. Send us a photo first and we will tell you if there is a table in it.
